About WLPOA (Board, Projects)

The White Lake Property Owners Association was founded in June 1968 to protect the quality of the lake for all current and future stakeholders.  In the beginning the WLPOA created and enforced some of the laws unique to our lake (horsepower limit, no wake hours.)

In the 1990s, the White Lake Management District was created.  The WLMD taxing authority with more power to create and enforce ordinances.

Since then the WLPOA has evolved into a more social group dedicated to sharing information, promoting projects to improve the lake and providing opportunities for collegiality among lake neighbors.

2018 WLPOA Annual Meeting and Picnic

Some of the projects the WLPOA has taken on include a fish study, survey of members, minnow cribs, larger fish cribs and the annual cleanup day in October.  We also publish a newsletter and host the annual meeting and picnic.

We still operate under the 1968 by-laws which call for a nine member Board of Directors.  These board members are elected at the meeting each year.  But we never turn down extra help and if more than 9 property owners want to participate, we can create 'at-large' board positions or committee leadership roles as needed.

The current board members (following the 2018 annual meeting):

Up for re-election in 2021:  Eric Elfner, Jane Terry and Bill Vich

Up for re-election in 2022:  Tom Kielich. 2 open seats

Up for re-election in 2023:  Judd Gastel, Mark Mydlach and Leo Souder

We are required to select officers at our first meeting after the annual meeting.  In August 2018, we retained Mark Mydlach as President, Mike Coursey as Vice-President, Judd Gastel as Treasurer and added Eric Elfner as Secretary.

The nice thing about this board is that everyone contributes.  Bill and his father have constructed minnow cribs to distribute. His wife Lesa coordinates the fall cleanup.  Jane organizes and purchases all the food for the picnic.  Mike coordinates the grillmasters for the brats. Leo cleans up the land where we have the picnic, gets the beer and soda and various tables and garbage cans for the picnic.  Fred writes the newsletter and patrols the lake and Tom takes regular readings and samples of lake conditions (continuing the proud tradition of Stan Young's records, some going back to 1955.)
